Beach Wheelchairs and Accessibility

Importance of Wheelchair Accessibility
Walking in the sand can be a challenge for many on their feet; It's nearly impossible for those with disabilities in a wheelchair. Fortunately, the counties of Walton and Okaloosa recognize this issue and have come up with a couple of solutions to combat the problem. Everyone deserves the chance to go out on the beautiful white beach and take in all the Emerald Coast has to offer!

South Walton's Beach Wheelchair Program
To help give people in wheelchairs their freedom on the beach, South Walton introduced their Beach Wheelchair Program. This program has put together beach wheelchairs at 5 beach access points through the spring and summer season. The lifeguards are there with a smile on their face to take you down to the beach and back up whenever you decide to leave. The longterm goal of the program is to install rubber mats that can be rolled out on the sand to provide even better accessibility for the chairs.
